Bunions on your feet can get larger and more painful with each new day.  If you have been suffering with bunion pain for awhile, it is time to come in and see Dr. Applegate in order to not suffer any longer.  If bunions go left untreated, as time goes on your pain could become worse and the bunion could be more difficult to correct.  Ignoring your bunion can lead to the following:

Severe and worsening discomfort

Swelling, redness, and pain in the toe joints could be a sign of a bigger problem.  Also, pain can eventually expand from the toes, to the knees, to the hip, and into the back.

Difficulty standing or walking

Untreated bunions could affect your gait and ease of walking.  In the elderly, it could increase fall risk.  Poor physical function can also affect poor social and mental health states leading to a higher dissatisfaction with life.

Hammertoes

Middletoes can become deformed or crossed over.  Pain in the ball of the foot can also occur.

Bursitis or Osteoarthritis

Cartilage in the joints can wear down causing bones to rub together.

David Applegate, DPM believes that bunions should not be ignored.  As the deformity worsens and gets larger later on, it can become more difficult to correct.  If you have been living with a bunion,  consider scheduling an appointment at Texas Foot and Ankle Specialists.
