When a new year begins, it is common for us to see several different injuries related to beginning a new exercise regimen.  A common condition we see in our office during this time is called a Stress Fracture.  This can happen training for a marathon or just walking on the treadmill a few times per week.  This injury usually comes from overuse and produces a crack in the bone.

Pain can typically worsen with increased activities or activities that one does in repetition.  Stress fractures can normally not be found via an initial x-ray and may require a MRI or bone scan to confirm the diagnosis.  Until the bone heals, it is advised that the patient does not bear weight on the injured area and usually requires crutches and a cast or a cast boot until the area heals.

If you suspect that you may be suffering from a stress fracture, consider scheduling an appointment at Texas Foot & Ankle Specialists. We are conveniently located adjacent to the La Centerra outdoor shopping center across from Cinco Ranch High School in the Katy area of west Houston. We have convenient hours to accommodate a variety of schedules and can offer same day appointments most of the time for those with pressing needs.
